Mommy and Me (Parent/Caregiver and Me)
Dancer and adult dance together while focusing on rhythm, movement and coordination.
This class is structured to introduce basic exercise and movements of dance. For children ages 3-4.
This class teaches basic ballet positions and postures as well as basic musical timing through beginner tap movements. This class is a great way for the young dancer to try different forms of dance while gaining solid foundation in ballet and musicality.
Continues to focus on fundamental techniques, building a strong dance foundation and ballet terminology while introducing anatomical terms. For children around the age 5-9.
Expansion of fundamental techniques to continue to build a strong dance foundation. Students will develop a strong ballet terminology and continue to build on anatomical terms. For children around the age 7-11.
Expansion of fundamental techniques to build artistic interpretation of movement. Continued study of accurate anatomical and ballet terms. Previous experience strongly recommended. Students in ballet 3 are encouraged to take classes 2-3 times/week. Now offered in A and B levels.
Encourage artistic exploration with emphasis on correct body alignment and assessment of self body mechanics to prevent injuries and create a lifelong dance career. Previous experience is necessary. Students in ballet 4 are encouraged to take 3 or more times/week.
Continue to encourage artistic exploration with emphasis on correct body alignment and assessment of self body mechanics to prevent injuries and create a lifelong dance career. Previous experience is necessary and placement or invitation only. Students in ballet 5/6 must take 4 or more times/week. Students in level 6 will be required to take class in our pre-professional program en pointe at least twice a week.
Strengthening and alignment based class designed to prepare our younger dancers for kinesthetic awareness required for pointe work. Students will not be on pointe during this class as this serves as a preparation for pointe work in the future. This class is by invitation only and is non-performing.
By recommendation and upon passing a strict evidence based test to determine muscular strength, balance and range of motion appropriate and safe to participate. Must also take at least 2 ballet classes at EMpowered Dance Center.
Draws from both modern and classical ballet methods and techniques to create a diverse dancer. Students must take ballet and modern/lyrical classes at EMpowered Dance Center. This class is by invitation only.
Students will learn variations from classical ballets, such as Swan Lake, Don Quixote, etc. This class may be taken en pointe or flat ballet slippers. Students must take ballet class at EMpowered Dance Center. This is a non-performing class.
Modern is a dance style that focuses on the dancer's interpretation instead of structured steps. Students are strongly encouraged to take at least one ballet in conjunction with Modern.
Modern 1 (ages 9-11) and Modern 2 (ages 11-14)-Students without previous experience in modern
Modern 3 (ages 12 and above)-Students with previous modern experience or a strong ballet background and with instructor approval. Modern 4 (ages 12 and above)-Students with previous modern experience or a strong ballet background and with instructor approval.
Lyrical is a combination of ballet, jazz and modern. Students must take at least one ballet class at EMpowered Dance Center to enroll in lyrical. Lyrical 2 is for ages 7 and above with dance experience, Lyrical 3 is for students around 10-14 and Lyrical 4 is for ages 12 and up with instructor approval.
Pilates is a physical fitness system developed by Joseph Pilates. Pilates improves flexibility, builds strength, develops control and endurance in the whole human body. Places an emphasis on alignment, breathing and developing a strong powerhouse. Emily is certified through American Fitness Professionals and Associates. For ages 12 and over.
Isolations, high energy, low center of gravity and syncopated rhythm are all emphasized in this class. Choreographed to popular music. Jazz 1 is for ages 7-9, Jazz 2 is for ages 10-12 with dance experience and Jazz 3 is for ages 12 and above with instructor approval. Jazz 4 must have previous jazz experience and with instructor approval.
A form of dance characterized by using the sounds of tap shoes striking the floor as a form of percussion. Emphasizes musicality and rhythm. Tap 2 is for ages 6-10 and Teen Tap is for students around 11 with previous dance experience and Tap 4 is for ages 12 and above with instructor approval.
This class introduces a street dance style primarily performed to hip hop music. It includes a wide range of styles, primarily breaking, locking and popping. Kinder HipHop is for ages 5-8. HipHop 2 is for ages 8-11. HipHop 3 is for ages 12 and up.
Turns and Leaps
This technique class will increase your flexibility, strength, endurance and enhance proper dance technique. Emphasis on the proper building blocks for jumps, leaps and turns. Students must take ballet and jazz/lyrical/modern at EMpowered Dance Center. This is a non-performing class.
For children with sensory processing disorders, Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Muscular Dystrophy and other neurological deficits. Instructor holds certification through Rhythm Works and is a licensed physical therapist assistant and certified Neuro-Developmental Techniques Therapist (NDT) as well as a Certified Brain Injury Specialist.
